Well stated. And though I’m not a Stroll fan, he has showed some signs of promise. There certainly have been some bad gaffs too, but that’s to be expected of a young driver.

Kind of reminds me of the Lamborghini Islero.

Yeah, there’s definitely a lot of special tools required to work on TDIs.

Hah, got a good chuckle from “Coal-rolla.”

The hardest part is probably removing the old lump of an automatic in the first place. Going to want to put the front end in service mode (Read: pretty much just remove the whole front), undo the AC belt, unbolt AC compressor and compressor bracket so you can access the starter, through there you can get at the torque

Williams has been making all kinds of fascinating tech behind the scenes, yet unfortunately can’t get it together in F1. It’s a real shame as they clearly have some real talent in the engineering department.

I’ve owned most of the older ones at this point. A couple 1Z 96 Passats. An AHU 98 Jetta that eventually was transferred into a 97 GLX chassis. Couple 99.5 Mk4 2 door Golfs with the ALH. Couple 2003 Jetta wagons with the ALH. A 2006 Jetta sedan with the BRM code PD. 3 2.0L PD 2005 Passat wagons.

Your 2010 uses a 6 speed, which is a different clutch and flywheel anyway.

I generally only own cars that are currently plentiful in Pick n Pull style yards.

If it were a 200 wagon with the 20V Turbo, yes.

I like the idea of a 50 state solution from the business side as having two different standards to meet is certainly a headache for automakers. And we’ve gotten to the point now where most automakers rarely make a “California-only” emissions model, aside from making electric vehicles specifically for California for

I do very much miss the madness that having the season finale at Fontana brought. It generally was a hotly contested race with a lot of passing and insane speeds.

Hell, I’m just kinda bummed they don’t race at either D shaped superspeedways anymore (Michigan and Auto Club/Fontana/California).

I just came here to see what Mergio Sarchionne has to say.

Don’t disagree, re: bad apples.

To be fair to manufacturers, when regulators first started to encourage diesels it had more to do with CO2 output than anything. They decided to sacrifice air quality to hit aggressive carbon output targets. And to be perfectly clear, CO2 is not bad to breath, it’s just that it has a direct relationship to amount of

To people who enjoy cars, it’s not a hassle. In fact, it’s an opportunity to make it better than ever. I’m a technician by trade and do that with all my vehicles.

Realistically, most of those cars are already near the bottom of their value anyway as they’re all either just about 10 years old or older. Plus, diesels are so incredibly common over there, they might as well be throwaways compared to the U.S. where their scarcity has kept used parts and car prices for them

Irony of ironies, in the U.S. at least, the regions that experience some of the worst smog due to very dry and stagnant weather patterns also have a huge number of very old cars still on the road also thanks to those very same weather patterns, because those old cars don’t rust away in these regions.

I think an epic road trip sounds like the perfect “in-between jobs” thing to do. Especially with severance pay and extra bucks per freelance article!

Awww dangit. Gonna miss the genuinely knowledgeable and enthusiastic motorsports coverage.
