The worst comic strip you ever read? Did you just start reading comic strips yesterday? I'd rather read classic Alley Oop than any strip I can think of that's currently being published.

Kind of surprising that there are women who are still willing to work with Brian Wood.

I would highly recommend filling yourself in on the Maggie/Hopey/Ray backstory before tackling Bunglers. While the story itself is self-contained enough to make sense to a newcomer, it won't have anywhere near the impact it would if your familiar with the characters. Start with The Girl from Hoppers and work your way

Couldn't agree more. I'm normally not a huge fan of slice-of-life style comics, but The Love Bunglers is one of the most beautiful and emotionally devastating things I've ever read.

Neil Gaiman?

That's exactly how I feel every time I look for manga at Barnes & Noble. On my last trip however, I scored a copy of Nijigahara Holograph by Inio Asano. Surreal, Lynchian horror with gorgeous art. Highly recommended.

Yeah, your just wrong about that. Jodorowsky may not write the best dialog, but his comics have a kind of go-for-broke craziness that makes them a joy to read. I wish more mainstream American comics were like that.

A misdemeanor pot bust isn't going to ruin anyone's life. You'll pay some fines and maybe spend a night or two in jail if you live in one of those dickish states.

If your into horror manga you should give The Drifting Classroom a try. When it was originally published in Japan in the mid-seventies it was actually sold as a kids title, which is just about the craziest thing ever. Think Lord of the Flies with everything cranked to 11. Great stuff.

Saga an MP are both great but I don't think either one of them can touch Prophet.

Seconded. It's great to see a long-form story from DeForge for a change. I think that because he usually produces short stories (and because his artwork is so striking) people tend to overlook what a fantastic writer he is.

Black Hole is nothing. Try reading a Suehiro Maruo comic in public.

Yeah, Lose 5 and Very Casual we're both awesome. I'm also really looking forward to having a physical copy of Ant Comic.

No Michael Deforge? No shoutout to Picturebox? For shame.

I usually can't stand Ennis but Fury was basically all of what makes him good with very little of the shit that makes me dislike his writing.

Agreed. That and Prophet. Kudos on that by the way. There isn't a monthly book that I look forward to more.

Really? I thought Batman Inc. was, with the possible exception of those three Quietly issues, the best part of his run.

I was thinking specifically of the enormous broadsheet comic in Building Stories or maybe Kramers Ergot 7. I also just got Jack Kirby's tabloid size "2001: A Space Odyssey" adaptation on ebay for 6 bucks.

Also true. Although I definitely have a soft spot for comics in oddly shaped or ridiculously big formats.

I'm guessing that Marshal Law would be considered mainstream.
