Edginess and naturalism would be fine if the shows were actually well-written, which is the main weakness. Logic and insightful character and plot are thrown out the window for stereotypical Hollywood excitement and intrigue.

Zach has identified the weakness of this episode and the show generally, but he’s being too nice/not critical enough. While Picard is a step up from Discovery, in that it’s not downright stupid, it’s filled with lazy Hollywood cliche after cliche. Hero gets broken so the writers can build him back up and give him an

To be fair, it was clear to me (and a number of others) upon release that TFA (an inferior remake with no creativity or originality) and TLJ (an attempt at deconstruction but terribly executed) were pointless, but I’m glad TROS drove that point home for a number of (former) fans haha.

Star because these are good points.  Still loved the episode, but yeah, the passing on powers and fundamentally changing Dr. Manhattan’s character are a a bit awkward ...

Haha almost the same!  My wife was like, I don’t think I can watch anymore, and then kept watching ...

I like how you specified "episode movie", because I think we agree rogue one was awesome, but that there has been no other good SW movie since ROTJ!

This movie IS perfect.  There is no way anyone will be able to top this GODDAMN MASTERPIECE.

Star for both hilarity and deadpan delivery.

Totally agreed; I found myself on the verge of tears, which was really surprising, given the cliched premise.  Season 2 of The Orville has quickly catapulted it to one of my favourite shows.

I just wanted to say that I genuinely, non-ironically loved Bortus’s moustache and was really disappointed he shaved it off for a one-episode gag.  He looked like a fucking BOSS.

Once again, I agree with almost everything you say (except the death of the Admiral having weight), but that just doesn’t square with a “B+”! This is the Michael Bay(watch) of Trek, but not as well executed as either of those, and this gets a C- at highest due to the pretty battle. Last week gets a total failure. The

Except that everything he said is calm, rational and on-point.  And maybe he’s like me: he loves Trek and wants to keep watching, but his mind won’t let him ignore the utter stupidity of everything we have just seen.

The_Grændmæster_of_the_Void (formerly The_FirstApprentice_of_the_Slurry) is optimistic. He may have overlooked the fact that Alex Kurtzman is running this show, considers it a resounding artistic success and probably wants to squeeze 7 seasons out of it, minimum.

It’s a tough situation for liberals who care about representation (and I count myself as one of them), especially when stuff with good representation is not actually that great (see Disco, Captain Marvel, Ghostbusters). Ultimately, for me, artistic quality and integrity trumps all else when it comes to how I react to

I think I agree with pretty much all your comments, but a B- is way too high. Emotionally manipulative, clumsy storytelling, more super-fast illogical decision-making. Now we have a planet full of time crystals, working designs for time machines (the angel and Mudd’s technology), an already-super-powerful AI; going

I hope we are not putting in more thought than they did :P

Well they still called him captain, repeatedly, so it may be that’s captain’s uniform specific to cadet training, and/or something you wear around HQ, as in the Abrams movies.

Yep, they’re still referring to that. Note that the uniforms are different, and the person behind the window is wearing the cadet trainee badge. I don’t think there’s an implication that he’s going to get his injuries in the battle next ep.

“It’s a non-starter for a storyline, something which seems like it should matter because it has connections to earlier events, but has such little emotional resonance or meaning that it just sits there, empty and clever and not much else.” -- good summary of the entire show!
