Ah. I was perhaps misled by the word "people" in the lede, and the references to "society's" withering gaze.

I laughed. And then remembered I had a unicorn cake in the oven.

I must have phrased the original comment poorly - it was the entire combination (attitude, weak school, fluffy subject, aggressive body mods) that struck me as problematic.

Point taken, though it's not an impossible job outcome if you're a prison guard — which is one of the few likely gigs one could definitely get w/that set of qualifications.

So true! If only MEN's magazines had a similar term that'd make guys aware of this cruel situation w/swimsuits, sand and self-image. Unless...

Good question. Average thin dude still has like 14-17% bodyfat... so if the model is at 7-8% or so, that'd make him the same size as a guy who's 15 lbs heavier. Just a guess tho... he may have bulked up a few lbs in the upper body (and a lot of male models stay scrawny in the legs too).

Jarrod Scott is apparently 6'1" and 140 lbs.

If you think the two biggest drivers of sports salaries are "recognition and hype", you probably want to confine yourself to writing about other topics entirely... at least til you absorb a scant minimum of information.

In isolation, nothing. They're a useful way for people to get lives back on track, transfer into competitive four-years (if they want to access higher-wage jobs, say), be exposed to potentially higher standards than their high schools or other local institutions might provide... a lot of stuff.

congrats! it was more the overall combo of "attributes" that struck me... and fwiw, i don't see the community-college plus hairtrigger-temper side of the equation will change anytime soon.

A mouthy, heavily tattooed "Chicano Studies" student from Fresno City College?

The relevant poll numbers were those showing how the candidates ran after likely opposition themes were introduced. It's harder (and far far more expensive) to hurt McConnell than Judd in Kentucky — especially if a single $200K ad buy was a factor in her decision to not declare/run.

You put it better than I did... that's exactly what I was getting at. Better maps = better navigation.

Agreed - there are no information-deficit models of rape, presumably. Just meant that better info on the taxonomy of rape (and rape behavior) might lead to higher quality of life and fewer cruddy interactions for the rest of us.

Yes, exactly. And not just indirect awareness, either...

Wow - chilling and really informative. Maybe I'm being idealistic, but seems like putting this material in front of young men — as well as women — could be really beneficial. Anti-rape education is in its infancy, but there's so much upside.

just promise to continue plagiarizing from major scholars — no lightweights or Gender Studies TAs. maybe you can start a new trend here.

You probably owe Steven Pinker a citation, but it's a strong formulation nonetheless.

Good of you to say - thanks.

"Tearing apart" through the act of quoting large-circulation dailies?
