Yeah I think if you are separating art from the artist, you are only viewing the art on a very surface level. Your Buffy example is perfect.

I always disagree with the idea that Rian said “screw you JJ I’m gonna do what I want and pivot super hard”

Did RJ reinvent the wheel? Or did he just tap into what Star Wars says at its core?

In regards to your second comment, I don’t think that was the case. Colin Trevorrow wrote his screenplay while TLJ was in production. It got canned pretty late and JJ was brought on and him and the studio kind of flailed for two years trying to hit the release date.

The sequel trilogy would be so much stronger as a whole if they hadn’t panicked with 9. People like it claim the ending should have been planned from the start but you don’t need to do that. In fact I would argue that all the best sequels in film history weren’t originally planned. TLJ had a complete story but it also

I really think your comment is one we will see more and more over the years. TLJ is going to age like a fine wine.

It was really hard to imagine a scenario where TLJ gets the best reviews of all the new movies and then Rian goes on to make another original hit with Knives Out and Lucsfilm goes “Well these men who on the internet keep calling him Ruin Johnson so we’re gonna go with someone else”

This might be a hot take but I personally think Favreau is just a very average film maker who often fumbles tension. If we are talking Mandalorian writers/directors I would much rather see Rick Famuyiwa take on a movie. The two episode he wrote that costar Bill Burr are easily the best Mando episodes imo.

I think it also helps that Marvel characters of so many different stories and retcons that fans are willing to accept different versions. And if they don’t like the MCU version they can revisit whatever comic, game, or cartoon they want.

TLDR: I think Star Wars’ very loud (vocal minority) fan base shackles the kind of stories Lucasfilm is willing to tell. They would much rather watch Luke Skywalker kick ass then see characters fail, learn, and grow.

Yeah I think it could easily go either way. I’m starting to lean towards it all being Wanda but I’m not positive.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying

Not an SNL guy but I was hyped to see Rateliff performing. His stuff with the Night Sweats and his solo stuff is all really great. He has had a pretty good following but I’m happy to see him getting some National Recognition.

A lot of people have really latched onto the Mephisto theory and are really hanging onto bread crumbs.

Yeah I thought Hayward was just a obstacle/red herring for our characters outside the hex, but now it really feels like he might just be THE bad guy.

Maybe I’ll have to rewatch because I havn’t seen any comments about it but I swear after the flashback to Sokovia Pietro says “your brother” to Wanda.

I feel like you just perfectly described a role Jack Black should play.

I am incredibly skeptical about this movie.

I mean you can also just 100% never bring up the character again. Her character wasn’t exactly in the middle of some complicated arc.

I agree mostly but I also think in this case you don’t even need the character.
