Just a reminder that Paul Walker was a grown ass man who dated teenaged girls.

Why on Earth is longdx the person you’re trying to pick apart here? It makes sense to me that actively being the father of teenage girls would make this feel even more tangibly gross than normal. He’s not saying he’d think it was fine if he weren’t a dad... Jesus Christ.

I was 16 and dated a guy in his late 20s. At the time I thought it was because I was mature for my age (I was a teen and therefore an idiot ok?) but by the time I was in my late 20s I realised I could not imagine wanting to date a highschooler and that I’d never understood what was going on at all.

Not seeing many women in the comments. As a young woman I’ll say this:

Wow! As a father of twin teenage daughters, this just made my skin crawl. We seem to have a strange protective attitude about someone revered in his/her lifetime that died suddenly. We tend to overlook the bad to remember the idealized version of that person.

As a woman who is barely on Jalopnik I went into the comments with trepidation. There’s def some shitty takes on here but your comment was well thought out and measured.

It’s fucking crazy that people are defending behavior that puts Paul Walker in the company of folks like Roy Moore and Jerry Lee Lewis. Like I get that you both shared an interest in really fast cars but I don’t see how one excuses the other.

It’s sexism. Men see 16 yr old girls as women because they want to. What would you be saying if he had had relationships with 16 yr old boys? Cue the old, girls are so much more mature argument? Guess what, they aren’t. They’re just groomed to act that way.

Wow I didn’t know this. I’m mad that this changes my image of him. It’s sick. But we need to start addressing it the same time we address Jared Letos underage relationships and why he gets a pass.

Less than half his age?

Maybe this is just me speaking for myself, but I think dating someone less than half your age is intrinsically creepy.

So this won’t be popular but screw it. It was wrong for him to date girls under 18. He should have been punished for it, and it’s a shame he wasn’t. However, this just doesn’t have the same creepy vibe that Michael Jackson or Jimmy Saville had.
