It was certainly the inspiration, the proportions are so close, and the intakes at the rear wheel are identical (sorry for the flipped Mach5, just for image comparison from what was online). The Mercedes is just so elegant. What a timeless design.

Go to Texas, Elon, good riddance. Take your SpaceX sonic booms and your toxic Tesla ‘state of the art’ BS and ruin the open arms of your supporters in Texas. Get the F out of the 5th largest GDP of any worldly nation. Get out, so we can continue to supply the planet with high quality food and products without your…
There are so many other $4k cars out there which would be waaayyy better daily drivers. Two examples:
I mean it’s nice, but not nineteen nice. Seller hoping for that one retro enthusiast who didn’t buy one as a teen and has to have one in middle age. $12k and no more.
I’m guessing it’s a drug delivery vehicle that needs laundering.
No boots on the furniture!
For a Volvovian? NP. For all other reasons (funness, aesthetics, performance, driver engagement), um, no thank you. Boring Betty Brown car. Sorry. ND.
Wow, a 1987 959 was 0-60 in 3.6 seconds? That is a screamer when you consider a 911 turbo was ‘slow’ at 4.5 seconds. 6.8 seconds was a lifetime compared to the 959. But, it was also $40k compared to $225k . . . quite a difference in value.
First response, ND. Then I did a little research on 2019 VWs . . turns out there are a LOT of Beetles and standard + GTI Golfs @$30k+, and not very many Alltracks. In fact, I found only 1 around $29k. So, in fact, the seller ‘knows what they have’ apparently. I just didn’t know it. Who knew?
One would have to be daft to buy this for that many royal pounds. Shite condition this thing.
Given all the capable responses, this is a classic case of ‘It Depends’. A knowledgeable driver with a vehicle that has the clearance, the torque, and the mechanics/electronics, will be just fine. The idiot with the Rover, Jeep, FJ, Bronco, or whatever, is going to have issues. They should just say, “if we come get…
Instead of replacing the car, maybe relocation is a better choice? Put the $60k into somewhere other than the same NJ area? The outback of Allentown, PA? Get an EV that covers the commuting miles and keeps your family safe? What the F is wrong with NJ?
Sooooo, was that a NP, or a ND?
What’s the quickest way to turn that 6.6L from a 179HP ninny to a 300HP go getter? If it’s not much above $1K, then this is a golden era sleeper.
YES. Where has this gone? I remember it in my parent’s Buick LeSabre wagon I used to drive, but it has been a long time gone.
Wait, this isn’t some sort of weird AI rendering of fingers and hands for cars? I did not know this existed: Cross-Ram, I’ll have to look that up.
What on Earth was it for? Just giggles?
COVID missed taking out a few spectacular sh!tboxes of human beings. Why wasn’t it more selective? If it really was a Chinese engineered contagion, you’d think the targeting would’ve been better. Or, maybe it was . . . .and now we’re left with this hot mess of putrid excrement trying to lead the country again.
@Owen: the S5 is the real answer (>2018). I have one, and there is no equal, checks each and every box. It doesn’t meet the $$ requirement, but if one could stretch it out . . . best choice.
This is the definitive answer. No others meet the full requirements.
