Agreed. Childbirth complications alone would kill of a greater percentage of the walking uteruses (how Megan sees them) ultimately resulting in fewer net children.

I was careful to say "true community support." If your society is going to emphasize reproduction, then care for children can't just be just the sole responsibility of the genetic parents. If you obligate people (to the community) to have kids then there is a correlative obligation from the community to provide

With respect to the food, I've had to just believe that whatever method they used to preserve people was also used to preserve everything else, including food items.
