Oh, did I love XMarks.. A friend switched me to Opera and I've been using Opera Link across 2 computers, an iPhone, and HTC Snap for awhile now.

@iamnotafish: I'm not good in computer culture. What is the screen saver called? I will test it on my machines...

@CPPStud: Oh, it's a total scam. Try google first :P

Another freezer trick- If you have a portable device with stuck pixels, remove the battery (if possible) and let it chill overnight. The few times I actually have done this, I left the battery in it (cell phones I left turned on, iPods I put in standby) and it gave me some display back (the others you will have to

@dotuletz: Doh. Static electricity? I did work on a PC with the power still plugged in, while kneeling down on carpet and replacing RAM. Thankfully, the only thing that I screwed up was that brand spankin' new stick of DDR RAM. 512MB wasn't cheap at one time, you know..

@Kevitivity: I haven't explored GRC much, but always use their DNS utility when setting up someone's networking.

Anyone else love that feeling of 'stealing' back drive space? It's almost like installing fresh RAM in that trusty workstation

@Jan Hertsens: Lifehacker explains how to successfully barter with a fellow Native American

@zenfluence: Good call, my fellow life hacker.

@pobox90210: I can understand skipping checks, but cash talks - mostly in n small towns or lesser populated areas, where there are more small businesses. When you pay by check or credit, the transaction is recorded in various places. When you pay in cash, the sale might as well have never happened. Less to worry about

@St. Fu: Good point. I'm really hoping a lot of people here already know that. Sometimes rubbing alcohol isn't as readily available as a dry erase marker.

@dsh: Apple didn't overlook it. Apple wanted to promote the simple design of their products with easily ruined cosmetics. I was just lost as to how a child's life is less valuable than the appearance of an electronic that will be replaced by the time the child has their next birthday.

@kondrik: Cable companies can see everything about your connection (remote diagnostics) to check and see if you need a boost, upgrade, etc. If they end up logging into a Linksys interface, expect a convenient notice. Chances are they won't do anything about it, but the local diagnostics is usually 192.168.100.1 (from

@altgraf: SurfBoard?! Psh, I'd be more comfortable with dial-up.. Comcast handed us a few Surfboards - and of course to prove you correct, we didn't pay for the 3-4 we went through.

@Sprzout: I am soooo ready for my 50Mbps boost.. just let me know if there will be more bottlenecks on gaming

@HeartBurnKid: Agent of R.O.A.C.H.: Comcast charges for rent of modems, but requires everyone to use their free converter boxes - which of course have a huge C stamped on the front and puts out worse quality than without the box. Also, the limit is 5 TVs per household.

@phlavor: I have noticed Comcast will 'refresh' your speed when installing a new modem. Gives new subscribers reason to stay with them. A friend had a modem that would pull about 3-4Mbps down, and we replaced it with the same model (although from a different company). Comcast activated it within minutes and he was

When we first signed up for broadband internet (with Insight Communications in Illinois), we received a wireless starter kit (Arris modem, Linksys WRT54G, and PCMCIA card). There were no rental fees on the modem. They started offering VoIP service, and we switched to that. They sent for a contractor to install the

Opera 10.5 BETA!??! It just went public and I got the 10.51 update today. Noticed it loads pages just the slightest bit faster—but that's probably all in my head. or modem. who knows?
