How could you tell if it wasn’t working. Asking for a guy who’s team lost by a goal having to watch the other team sub 3 players in for 3 minutes of stoppage time (well, more like a min n a half when they got done)

If the refs keeping exact extra time then why has there never been a stoppage time that didn’t end in an exact minute? That’s impressive. Drew talks about baseball being stuck in its past, but soccer is right there with it. Look at the fight against goal line replay. Now we have a better solution for clocks than a man…
A 3 score soccer game is basically over for the last 15 minutes as they kick it around in wide open space and team cover it up in the corners. Basketball teams dribble the last few minutes out if the opposition has determined it’s not worth fouling more. You’re selectively seeing things.
