It’s not about the daily use part. It’s about the max needed range based on the farthest a people may generally need to go on rare occasions. Grandma’s house ... Seattle ... whatever.

So “nobody” ever runs a car at a drag strip or runs a car at a road course or... wait for it... street races?

and before you tell me Tesla drivers don’t do the street racing shit I can tell you I’ve run out of appendages to count on where some knucklehead in a Tesla makes a point of showing me how fast they can gap my

To be fair, Germans do actually drive over 100 mph on a regular basis, and Model S has been shown to lose power on the Autobahn.  I think the Model 3 does better. Not super relevant to someone like me who deals with Los Angeles traffic on a daily basis...

Yeah but not the way ford did with the ignition switches that killed people, and vw with its cheating diesels, and on and on and on

This. Why is no one mentioning this. Plus they open sourced all their patents for use. So no excuse not to use their interfaces for charging.

Thank you for making the subsidy point!

I wish people would stop pretending like they need more range.

it’s a little different, in that electricity delivery tech can change a lot faster than fuel delivery tech. asking the EV industry to accept a standard is a little like expecting the PC industry to accept a standard hard drive size and speed.  ultimately, it would kind of fuck everything up.

Since Tesla’s network exists, maybe the other manufacturers could adopt their standard instead. They made their patents are available for use without license. But seeing as we’re talking about the Germans, I’m sure they have in mind a more complicated, less reliable interface that can’t withstand the environmental

First off, Ludicrous mode does NOT require you to sit there and warm up or cool down the battery. That’s only the case for “ludicrous plus” mode where you want to take it to a drag strip and shame other cars. Regular Ludicrous mode will do a 0-60 in 2.5s, no preheating or precooling whereas Ludicrous Plus gets you

Except Ford didn’t build those gas stations or refine that gas.

He’s calling for regulation, not nationalization. Big difference.

The average American doesn’t have a garage”
60% of Americans live in houses with off-street parking.

Exactly, Tesla came out of nowhere and right now, their closest competition has been a $100k Porsche.

They can try to explain it away but an extra 166 miles of range is what the consumer really wants.  After 7 years it’s pretty clear that Tesla makes a reasonably safe vehicle as long as you don’t turn on autopilot and then fall asleep.

I don't know if it is "cutting corners" to not design a car to do a bunch of dumb shit nobody ever actually does.

Eh, most real world Tesla with substantial miles are seeing less than 10 percent degradation over 100k miles.

Most laughable is the bit about long-term battery health as if Audi gives a fuck about reliability outside of their warranty.

In America, we’re still waiting for a reliable and expansive fast-charging network to really take on Tesla’s Superchargers. The Volkswagen Group is getting one built out, but it’ll take some time.

On a scale of one to FUCK YES, this ranks at a solid FUUUUUUUCKKKK YEYEYEYAIUSHDIUSHADIUSHADESSSSSSSS. For all of its flaws, the CW-verse has done a spectacular job honoring the vets of the genre, and I can’t thank it enough for being confident to just be itself.
