Sherwin Nuland’s beautiful How We Die is a fantastic book for understanding all this stuff. In my case, and hopefully lots of others, it also helped me understand that while death itself isn’t a choice, the way we die is, and as we age (I’m 58 but read the book at about 35 when it came out) we can make choices about

It’s no big deal. I’ve been resuscitated from a pretty flat line (sorry, believers, there’s nothing there) and what I didn’t experience while I was in that condition wasn’t any different from what I don’t experience every night when I go to sleep. Step away from your vanity — the world without you, me, or most

That’s not a butter knife. That’s a table knife! You don’t bring a butter knife to a table knife fight.

Also, dice them, throw them in your sauté pan with some butter and sugar and cinnamon, get some of that juice out, cool in your fridge, and make apple cinnamon ice cream. (Bonus: Throw bits of pastry in there and you’ve made apple pie ice cream.) Share it with a friend if you must, but once it’s ripened, you can do

Does T-Mobile’s deal with MLB offer any streaming, or is it at too basic a level? (I assume I can still watch on a computer, but is that true?)

All of these are really gross so I'll wish you well, remind you that Pop Tarts are waiting for you and your Anova, and come back next week. (I do remember reading, FWIW, that vegetables need to be heated over 190.)

Along with the other points, the monte cristo sandwich usually comes with jelly.

And now that I've caught up on the rest of the early morning posts, Claire, I'm curious whether a little sprinkle of that dry milk powder you mention in your other post might benefit pancakes. Time for some A/B testing? Nom....

Because, well, we’re out here, Pancakes For One:

1/3 cup of AP flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 tablespoon of sugar, adjust to taste
A sprinkle of salt, adjust to taste

The smallest egg you have
Enough milk to bring the egg up to 1/4 to 1/3 cup of liquid
A few drops of really decent vanilla extract

Although I mostly use

Yeah, same here. I can go to 32", but even if my living room had more space, this is just TV, you know? Meanwhile, as someone who both creates and enjoys 3D content, I’m going to have to hold out until some manufacturer shrugs and throws us a bone. (Which will look so realistic that we’ll try to catch it.)

“How We Die” by Sherwin Nuland is a really, really good read. Probably a bit dated statistically as it was first published in '93, but Nuland neither romanticized nor sensationalized, but still had (and created) so much empathy.

Or... Pop Tarts. I think we need to see if sous vide makes Pop Tarts even yummier.

I love that all of the replies are all “NO DON’T DO THIS ... GET US BACK INTO OUR COMFORT ZONE NOW.”

I agree. If you’re getting your meat from sketchy people on street corners, well, do what you have to, but if you’re buying from actual butchers or supermarkets and not being stupid yourself, just cook and enjoy it.

Depending on your actual history, a very safe answer is along the lines of “The challenges I’ve chosen have [refined skills I already had | built a very wide skill set] at the cost of {whatever option you didn’t use before].” Be prepared with something that sounds spontaneous yet thoughtful like “And what I like about

A while back I got a couple of those silicone trays for making potato chips (heavily discounted on Meh), which came with a mandoline. I can’t say for sure the trays help (the mandolins do), but I got to spend money online, so that was a win. Honestly, I found the most important part was to use huge amounts of paper

Yesssss... this was... a great post... and you... deserve... a raise, Alan...

Fried ice cream. ... I guess not. Maybe meringue? It seems like in an oven, that has to be baked super carefully, at a low temperature with the door slightly open. I guess it would be hard to shape the meringue, but sometimes you just need to snarf down a handful.

Also, because we seafood-avoiders are going to have to skip half of the dishes on the table, it would be kind to let us have extras of those items we can have. (But I do understand this is hard on the fly in this situation and group dynamic.)

Whoever thought of this feature was *worse than Trump* and it really should have stayed dead. Who the hell thinks that's a good idea? People who are *worse than Trump,* that's who.
