Start your own party instead. There are tons of people waiting for groups and only a few brave enough to start one. Part of the reason you don't see many good requests is the few that go up fill quickly. I personally roll with friends but I've talked with plenty of people who have gotten good groups that way.

It is pretty much impossible with *random* matchmade players. It requires communication and teamwork which you just don't get from matchmaking. Thus the LFG sites, where you can state what you need and talk with people before you start to make sure they aren't just a random nitwit.
