I don’t think it’s outrageous, but if this chip is going to be a wearable item, they need to make it easy and affordable to replace. Flash has a finite lifespan, so not a Tesla problem per se. But the way it was implemented is pretty bad.

I suspect they’re using flash because of fast I/O. And given the amount of scrutiny these cars are under, I wouldn’t be surprised if they set logging verbosity really high for easier debugging.
