Strike One: The reason CryENGINE was chosen is because there’s a HUGE pool of devs with years of experience in the engine from which to hire from. Creating their own engine would’ve added years to the project and would have had zero experienced talent to draw from.

I am sorry, it looks like you have literally have no clue about the game. The funding for the game reached ages ago, and people are not forced to fund anymore. It is their way of getting the game faster as it is being made and putting down the money on ships as a pledge of good faith, not for access.
