I talk to immigrants all day at my work.

I’ve been in the honor guard for many naturalization ceremonies. It’s compelling to watch these people raise their hand and give an oath to our nation. They went to classes, took tests, paid money, fought the red tape.

Immigrants in general when they criticize are damned if they do and damned if they do.

It’s always remarkable how people whose only claim to becoming American was popping out of the uterus of one think they’re better than people who had to, y’know, work for it.

There's always that bit of racist demand for gratitude from these people even for those of us who are born here as if merely being allowed to exist around all this whiteness is supposed to be doing us some kind of favor. Disgusting really but unfortunately par for the course.

Fuck outta here. Most of us can see past blind partisan bullshit. Most of us called out President Obama and the most egregious parts (Foreign policy entanglements, Drones, Immigration) of his administration. Not all of us are Partisan hacks.

The most important part of a democracy is hearing the criticism. You absolutely need the push and pull of ideas from the opposite sides of the spectrum to find a middle ground that is a path forward for the most people.

Bulijol and bake is a great Trini breakfast with fish. Saltfish shouldn’t be weird to the American palate and fresh bake is always a delight.

Amen. Which is exactly why I’ve lost all respect for any supposed conservative who voted Trump or will do so again in 2020. Any and all policy arguments can only be had under the accepted baseline of basic decency and good morals.

Seriously fuck anyone who thinks criticism of your country means you don’t love your country. Same assholes who question the patriotism of anyone who questions American foreign policy (Iraq War, Drones, Israel, Saudi Arabia) are the ones wearing MAGA hats.

I’ll give you a case for Texas, but it comes with the implicit understanding that there’s a huge difference between enjoying a place you visit occasionally and enjoying permanent residence there.

I have, on rare occasions, thrown slices of lox into my breakfast taco/burrito. I regret nothing.

Far too many people, particularly on the right side of the political spectrum, treat their political affiliations as a tightly held identity. They also project this onto their perceived opposition, and it affects how they respond to everything.

Look, how could Augusta be racist? They began allowing black people to play there only *checks notes* 110 years after slavery was abolished.

The people that cheer on black players in any sport would absolutely move to the other side of the street if they were walking towards them.

A lot of us have played computer games where motion capture animated characters wander game generated landscapes. You soon reach a plateau where improved graphics no longer improves the gaming experience. The ‘Wow!’ factor cannot be sustained.

I get what you’re saying but there are other directors out there who can deliver a movie on-time and on-budget with no behind the scenes drama and will actually shoot the thing with more visual artistry than you’d find in a multi-camera sit-com. Ron Howard is a pretty good example of a workman like guy who will get

“The rest of his output ranges from bad to mediocre and everything is always so bland and workmanlike; it’s like he approaches movie making with the same mindset as someone whose job it is to stamp out licence plates.”

Your sentence above answers your question below. He’s hired precisely because he’s workmanlike.

When they announced they were doing a live-action remake of Lion King, I turned to my sister and said, “Won’t that still be animated? What’s the point? And won’t it be really creepy?” It may have been the most prescient three questions I’ve ever asked.

I’m just going to say it, Jon Favreau is not a good director. Iron Man was a good movie but I don’t think much of it’s success can be attributed to Favreau other than his having the good sense to sit back and let Robert Downey Jr. chew the scenery the entire time. The rest of his output ranges from bad to mediocre and
