I’m not in that community, but as soon as I saw the headline, I knew exactly what form that toxicity took. The same form it always seems to take when “toxicity” is mentioned alongside “gaming community:” Maybe a little bit of “gg ez” and “get rekt scrub, you’re shit” but a lot more of “fuk u fagits” and “niqqas, lol”

Online toxicity plays a part in the growth of authoritarianism, tbh. Shit like Gamergate became easy targets for authoritarian organizers because they saw in the accepted toxicity there fertile ground for reactionary radicalization.
