I think the 1000 hp Hummer EV, the new full size pickup EVs, and the upcoming military shifts to EVs and hybrids are going to start changing the minds of some of those people. It will be a slow process, but some right wing influencer will show off their “military spec” Hummer destroying the libs or some nonsense as a

The numbers don’t mean much without more context though.  Without the number of Tesla vehicles on the road, it’s hard to understand if this is actually good or bad.  To the author’s point it’s also like saying how many deaths were caused by cruise control, which is only used in limited scenarios that favor it.

“I don’t know what protocol is, but they drew their guns at me and my friend from both sides of the car,” she said.

Could be curb side pickup, the friend may have been going in for them, or everyone could be fully vaccinated, or already had COVID. I’m mostly playing devil’s advocate, but now that our kids are vaccinated and especially after our bubble burst, we are starting to take our kids out again. It’s not like the early days

If you’re looking for a GT car that isn’t German it’s really your only option any more.  I think most of the drug dealers are in Escalades now anyway.

Personally, I agree with you, but culturally, or maybe psychologically, that’s not true.

Sure, on some level it’s virtue signaling to decree you will eliminate ICE vehicles in X years, but better to fall short of an ambitious goal, than to make a weak one typically. On the other hand, when have promises from these organizations ever been worth more than the air used to promise them? They’re going where

Oh, I have no regrets. While frustrating, I found a great little house perfect for me and a dog. Lived in it for 13 years and sold it for more than I paid. 13 years essentially “rent free” is a win in my book.
Meanwhile we bought a short sale house in 2018 that while it needs a lot of work, is an amazing property and

Neutral: I do not envy anyone trying to buy a place to live today, or who bought recently. I remember the struggles buying my first place in 2005 when prices were going crazy, 13 offers, escalation clauses, no contingencies. Unlike that time there is unlikely to be a “bubble” you can wait out today.  Prices might

Except the value of Tesla stock is subjective and heavily influenced by what Elon does. If your money is also tied up in Tesla stock (as lots of people’s are) everything he does affects how much money you “have”, and therefore you care.

Hydrogen was always just an alternate means of storing energy, a different type of battery if you will. There was talk of hydrogen ICEs but it’s real promise was for fuel cells. But there are even more hurdles to overcome than just the ones you outlined above.

Exactly. If you get hydrogen from natural gas (as is common), then you are just taking the emissions out of the fuel prior to putting it in your tank. If you use water, then it just becomes a different type of battery, especially if used with a fuel cell.

My reading on the subject also said that they didn’t actually get much better mileage than regular ICEs, and that better efficiency was limited by the technology of the day, especially materials technology.

To be fair, who among us would offer to reduce our salary if/when the labor market isn’t as competitive for employers.

A minivan! It’s amazing how much room little people require when traveling! Probably the plug-in Pacifica since most of our daily trips would easily fall under the EV limit while still returning great mileage on road trips.

There will be a lot of places that can’t/won’t make the switch, but as EVs become more common there are still lots of repairs to be done. There are still a ton of modules and components in a modern EVs. LEAFs have had charge controllers go bad as they get older. Bolts have issues with the gear reduction module, and

5th Gear: Mechanics will be fine, it’s the “quick oil change” places that are doomed. Suspensions, CVs, brakes, cooling and climate systems are all the same or similar to ICE vehicles. They’re mostly swapping knowledge of fuel and emissions systems with batteries and power systems.

This brings back so many memories. I did similar stuff to my Shadow with the colored wire looms, and cheap extras and upgrades.  Fun times!

I have a few pet peeves on traffic, like the person who cuts you off because they want to turn. It is a challenge to control that lizard brain response that makes me want to do stupid things, that I always regret being stupid about immediately after I do them. Issue is that too often that aggression has no

First gear: This has actually worked out well for GM. Considering the car market right now, all the used cars they bought back or accepted trade on will sell for far more than they would have.  And the market is still hot enough that the new ones will sell with little of the incentives they were putting on the hood to
