I have good memories of Oldsmobile Intrigues.

Miatas do that to my Caterham

As an AW11 driver I get that effect from hatchbacks...

Shelby did something similar with the 1986 and 1987 Shelby GLHS models. The base cars (Omni/Charger) only had an 85 MPH speedo. Instead of creating a new speedo, they just added a little sticker at the bottom of the speedo that continued around to 135 mph.

Toyota needs to start offering the “roll hoop” style rear wing on these as a factory option. I don’t care if it wouldn’t be functional, but it would improve the looks dramatically. That would be way better than some carbon fiber bits.

I think fun is subject to geography. I live in a place with more straight road than curvy ones, and the highest-G you’re going to pull is on a tight interchange. It’s not Montana or Idaho, but it’s certainly not a canyonesq Arizona or Mountainous Appalachia. Having a gutless, small coupe here is dull and uninspiring.

The Queen Mary is the defining feature of the port of long beach at this point. Scrapping it would be a bit like tearing down the Statue of Liberty rather than pay the maintenance. Long Beach absolutely has to resolve this.

They need to build a permanent drydock for it and just get it sitting out of the water.  They can then build whatever sort of attraction around the ship as needed.  The ship itself is totally worth preserving though, not only for itself but as a time capsule to that era when sea travel by ocean liner was necessary.

40-60k car and you have to be “rich” to buy one? You realize the average new car price (read: AVERAGE) is nearly 40k.

It’s not that potential buyers are rich - you are just broke.

Or: they want to stay rich.

Unclear if that is a genuine XKCD image or just a clone...but I can assure the readers here that being a DINK* rocks!

The 5th person is not a passenger.

I’m with you brother.

For anyone on here who hasn’t already, I would highly recommend reading the short story “A Nice Morning Drive”, originally printed in Road & Track in the early 70's. The story inspired the Rush song Red Barchetta.

Don’t you know who I am?

Indeed. Had a very fun conversation with my dad when he got back from Italy for the first time on this sort of topic.

Holy shit, they listened!

What is this sorcery...

We were doing night flight touch and go’s for practice in the pattern and landing on runway 12. It was a moonless night and it was SUPER dark. The landing lights on the 172 give you about 1 second of vision ahead of you at 40 or so knots.

Fantastic game! It was one of those games I picked up on a whim, and I wasn’t disappointed. Sure, some might say it’s a poor mans Yakuza, but it definitely stands on its own. 9 bucks is chump change, too.
