Seems like a painful lack of synergy.

The biggest problems with the first week feel like they're coming from network pressure/interference. Booking such huge guests for the first week isn't realistic and really doesn't do any favors for a show trying to find its footing. And although they've dipped their toes in the barest minimum of "weird" to try to

Yeah, they really just need to be themselves and do the things that have historically worked well for them, whether they fit into the network's definition of "The Tonight Show" or not. Trying too hard to be someone else isn't going to work.

We need a new Hitler.

Yeah, it's a really awful design where a small article like Great Job Internet, or a contest announcement gets equal weight and prominence to a much more important feature. (unless it's chosen to temporarily be in the upper box, which makes its sudden demotion to halfway down the page all the more jarring)

Charlie Rose is still very much like that. Great show if you enjoy longer interviews.

I enjoyed this interview. I'll be keeping an eye out for the book.

Erik nailed it with the talk about farce. I feel like that was a big part of a lot of the early episodes, and it was great to see it make a return tonight.

It linked to something else earlier today. Pretty sneaky, Modell.

Modell seems to be unaware of Erin McGathy's podcast, This Feels Terrible, which is specifically about love, relationships, and sex. It's mostly guest-driven, but definitely worth a listen.

I'll be attending the Chicago….. oh :(

Despite my rant elsewhere in this thread, I will definitely agree that this section suffered when "The Rest" went to one or two sentences. I still don't understand why that needed to happen.

Your complaints make no sense whatsoever. You seem to be implying that every episode of a podcast is of the exact same quality as every other episode, which is just ludicrous.

He also seemed to just be asking normal cashiers. whereas I saw it more as something you ask after spending some amount of time with a salesman.

I love you Todd, but man, you really grilled the guy.

Yeah, I'm not sure why this was so unexpected. I know the Oscars are a fraud, but if anything I saw this list as more of a snub. Her was an astoundingly great film and deserves many more nominations in the acting/directing/everything categories.

Yeah, that was easily my favorite.

"We plan to check in with them throughout the year, just not every week"

I've enjoyed the episodes I've seen, but I wish they could just have a more freewheeling conversation instead of talking so much about weed and forcing themselves to do a lot of prepared segments on weed. To me a lot of the appeal of a talk show where everyone is stoned is lost if they're forced to focus on things.

Does the AV Club no longer like Superchunk?
