It was prosthetic.  There's a scene where he meets the hooker, and they have a conversation about her prosthetic hand and the way she paints her nails, and then he says her stump is gross and she says he's an asshole, then he apologizes, and… I guess they fuck, or maybe he abducts her right then and there.

Overload the system with underscores, perhaps?
