So maybe, and hear me out, maybe we just hold a primary where people who might consider running won’t view it as a waste of time because the party has anointed a savior. Maybe, just maybe, we wind up with the kind of participation we had in 2004 and someone like a John Kerry with less baggage emerges from the crowd.
