I never really listened to them tbh. But my general stance on Nu Metal is that it's a pretty blanket term. Like, I would say System of a Down are nu metal, but they obviously don't sound anything like Limb Bizkit.

Ok, there was still good metal around (even in America) during the Nu Metal years. I know the article doesn't explicitly say there wasn't, but it does gloss over those bands which definitely helped Mastodon find their footing. I mean, there's a reason Scott Kelly is on every Mastodon album.
