They should have just programmed the ECU of the manual cars to know when they are on a dyno and have them keep under the 160g emmission requirement while being tested.

Will Ferrell screaming “I drive a Dodge Stratus” is the only thing I could think of as soon as I saw the post. Well done.

It would be worth it for the meme. It might even be worth it for the car on it’s own merits.  It’s pretty nice, for what it is.  And if you’re going for the meme, might as well go all out.

The problem is Toyota/Honda have very high resale for economy vehicles, especially in these days of inflated used car prices. This is why the true broke person’s choice will be American. They are cheaper to buy, and while they are not as reliable they are also typically cheaper to repair when they do break.

It would be a logistical nightmare and political suicide to try and make everyday people go through enough training to be competent drivers like they do for pilots. Not to mention the many, many other problems that planes don’t have to deal with like cars do, traffic being a huge one. There is no way they could ever

Absolutely the wrong take-away. Nobody is suggesting the 90s wrecks that Allison, Earnhardt, and others (Ernie Irvan, for example) survived weren’t lucky breaks — that’s why the safety has become such an important aspect of the engineering of these cars AND TRACKS ... but I suspect Elizabeth knows this.

This stinks of

Nascar has so many problems and this is just one of them. I used to really enjoy NASCAR when I was younger, but it’s lost so much appeal. My problem with superspeedways is why should I watch someone (maybe) die in a wreck to see who is the best at drafting at 200 mph?

I did the same. Live in Texas and bought my car in Alabama. Flew there for about $200 and drove it home. Saved about $5K over local market prices.

What’s a few extra grand for something you really want?

But...these cars aren’t hard to find.

Yeah. Thats cool and all, but having two cars handy isnt really an option for quite a few people id suspect.

Its still there because, last I’d heard, they couldn’t figure out how to de-energize the battery(s).”

Tax incentives shave even more off.

Frankly, with the amount you drive and the age and efficiency of your car, you probably have a smaller carbon footprint keeping your ICE car rather than buying an EV, after you factor in the footprint of manufacture and disposal.

In 2013 the talk was all about how EVs were going to be soooo cheap. Basic little boxes with batteries.

I’ve replaced the battery in my car twice in the last 10 years. Now imagine if the battery is substantially more expensive and I can’t get it at Walmart in an emergency.

Let’s also not forget that dealers shot themselves in the foot with the ADM antics last year. Hell, up until ~May this year, the Ford dealer nearest to me was still putting 5k markups on non-GT Mach Es, and 15k markups on the GT variants.

The dealers have pointed to a lack of demand for less-than-affluent customers”
