This is not strictly a feature of barebone boards, or some kind of weird cost-cutting measure(though it is). Spacebars generally just aren’t illuminated and if they are it’s usually quite subtle, like a line or a few dots. Actually, the only board I know that really does this is Ducky.

So my suggestion: Get a Ducky.
