Don’t get me wrong I would buy a e9 before I buy a vintage 911, but I am just not rich enough to maintain one properly ... yet. Maintaining my six series is expensive enough at the moment. I just stated the cost factor, because the e12 in the article above is way cheaper than your suggestion.

I love the styling of these, but they are almost as expensive as old 911s, they are quite difficult to maintain, they rust horribly and a lot of the cars which are offered are two or more cars woven into some franken 3.0 csi.

“But then BMW got them back with the M3"

You wrote that BMW attacked Mercedes with the M3, and I pointed out, as written in my first post, that it was rather the 750i with which they attacked Stuttgart. As the arena they fought was the top end and luxury and not motorsport and it’s derivatives. Because Motorsport was an area in which BMW was already active

Yeah, but the 2002, the 3.0 CSL, the M1, the 635 and the first 3-series existed!

Mercedes wasn’t engaged in much motorsport through the 60s, 70s and 80s after they dropped out of formula racing in the 1950s. The racing efforts of this period were mostly driven by third party actors like AMG. Their whole lineup wasn’t sporty at all, the last proper sports car until recently were the original 300

Not really, as Mercedes hold long to some sort of "no sports" motto. It was really the 1987 750i which pissed them of.

It was a good burn, especially since Mercedes-Benz almost took over BMW in 1958. That stung BMW for a long time and added to the rivalry, which drove quite some decisions, like building the first German post war twelve cylinder engine.

God choice staying in the past, we can meet us there...

I have a rather unorthodox strategy, park next to family vans or minivans with sliding doors. I know it seems counterintuitive, careless grubby kids and all, but hear me out. The main problem are door dings, the kids in the backseats may be careless about opening the doors, but sliding doors prohibit this threat,

Easy, I pour the oil in my well kept 1984 six series, drive around in joy. Take a close look at the stock market of the last decades. Travel with my eighties obsessed wife back in time, sell the car, invest in stock, buy the car and a lot of other examples 80s glory back... Cocaine here we come...

One problem I could see, is that it encourages people to drive more than they need to, and that is a bad thing, as long as America has ecological problems, traffic problems and too much people with overweight.

The Porsche Cayenne turbo has an top speed of 284km/h, so the model x is definitely not the fastest premium suv, although it may be the quickest.

Yeah they stopped the 633 in the German market in 1982.

Also the 635 had, at least in Europe, a 25% limited slip differential. Therefore being, apart from the m635 with a 50% limited slip differential, better equipped for sporty use than the other models.

The value is going up for years in Europe. Good examples of post1982 635s are past the 20.000€ mark. A lot of German classic car traders are already importing American and Japanese cars to feed the demand, therefore the prices in America will go up at some point too. It seems to be a similar development to the

I second that. In the richer parts of Germany - Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Köln, Bonn, and everything south of Frankfurt - a 911 turbo seems to be a normal car. So performance models of VWs doesn’t really cut it here. Also you have to factor in that Mercedes, BMW and Audi are normal cars in Germany. They compete with Ford,

I think a big part of the problem in this area is the competition you are or seem to be in when you are looking for a classic car. This shouldn’t hinder you from proper checking, but it makes not doing it understandable.

I would add the VW Phaeton to that list, this thing is pure quiet luxury, also the Mercedes S-class used to be quiet luxury until not long ago and it was the car lexus aimed for, when they were building the brand.

Yeah I know. I rescued a 80s laptop from the trash of our economics department at some time, this thing still runs, but it is pretty much useless. I just couldn’t bear throwing away a unit which costed about 20.000 Mark new and I have a sweet spot for old tech, also the rest of my useless junk is more from the optics
