I’m so pissed that they killed Deadspin. The level of stupidy by the fuckfaces at G/O is mindblowing. The only reason why millions of people read Deadspin (and made it THE cashcow of the Gizmodo Group aquisition) over places like Sports Illustrated or ESPN is BECAUSE it never stuck to sports.

Deadspin and Splinter were both first to multiple massive labor stories, and as a worker and organizer and fellow WGAE member that shit still means a lot to me. Power to the staff. Fuck the bosses who clearly don’t know what they’re doing. Those ships may have been sunk by a Great Hill-sized iceberg, but my heart will

But can I still drink while my favorite website implodes because a couple of limp-dick assholes would rather fuck it’s dead corpse than stick to what has worked for nearly two decades?

WeWork is just trying to follow their new “stick to esports” mandate

Thank you for this, I have spent all morning looking for a website to tell me who won last night’s game.

If you read between the lines, it kinda is.

So Deadspin’s fucked thanks to Jimmy’s inability to run a successful business. Deadspin has now had all its comments turned off and several staffers have very publicly quit after the firing yesterday.

GCC/IBT member here, hell yea solidarity

hell yeah. I don’t think I’ve ever not had Desmond Bryant’s mugshot as my avatar, but I’ll set him aside for this.

“Stick is candy!”

That’s one thing I never got; there’s tons of fucking sports coverage here.

Wow!  This is a great post about sports, sports only, and nothing else besides sports!

Plus 20,000 Barry Petcheskys

Lord grant me the courage and unearned ego of a failson MBA with no real world experience. These galaxy brained doofuses completely fucked themselves on so many levels. Not only did they lose the Farmer’s endorsement, but who the fuck else is gonna want to do business with them?

Yeah. The amazing thing about stick to sports is that, well, Deadspin was doing just that! Looking at the Concourse, they posted a non-sports article once every few days. According to the NYT article, Concourse articles made up one out of every FIFTY Deadspin posts. That seems like a pretty good focus on sports. You

I guess they were wildly underperforming before the autoplaying ads. And then G/O Media started doing the autoplay to pump up impressions, everybody hated it, and every ad exec was saying “Yeah, but those are pretty meaningless impressions. Why would anybody pay for that?”

The framing on that tweet is kinda bullshit. I doubt they pulled the ad campaign over the posts, they pulled it because someone up the food chain at Farmers realized that Spanfeller’s Merry Bunch of 60 Year Old White FailDads sold them a load of goods and was using decade old horseshit scam tricks to meet numbers.

The WSJ article about this is an amazing read. Because a lot of times in situations like this, there is actually some legitimate business rationale for the thing that users hate. Like, I would have expected that article, especially in pro-business WSJ, to have people saying that the autoplay ads made business sense
