If the drive fails, I still have the files on the computer, right? What are the chances that that the computer drive and the external drive both fail simultaneously?

Would CrashPlan then be better than the software that comes bundled with external hard drives?

I don't know what you're getting at with it needing a more iOS look, but I'll agree that this looks pretty crappy.

I probably would, but I'm up for my 2 year upgrade on my Incredible in about a month. Once I get a new phone, I won't have to worry about any of this stuff for another year until the warranty is up.

I do use titanium backup for my apps that either paid or have some form of data, preferences, or login info that needs to be saved. For other apps, its much faster for me to just keep them in a flashable zip that I can flash right along with the ROM.
