I don't think that's a limitation of Android. I think that's just how sms works. When someone sends a "group SMS," it's really just a convenience feature on their end. I just wish there was some more transparency. We don't know how it's calculating it, which sucks. If we knew, we could compensate ourselves when we know it's making a mistake (like your example). Since it doesn't tell you, you just have to blindly trust the number.

Just pay your card off more often. If you're paying online it only takes about 30 seconds. You can do it once a week and your balance will never get that high.
