It’s like the Kohl’s pricing model. “Let’s artificially inflate the price of a good so that we can mark it down and the consumer thinks they’re getting a bargain.”  It’s stupid that you can usually get 20% off MSRP on a truck, for example. 

I mean the base model escape is only $1800 cheaper than the base model Bronco sport, and the escape is FWD. If you want AWD, it would actually be cheaper to buy a base Bronco Sport than an Escape S AWD! I really see Ford cannibalizing their own market space here.
