I’m talking about people arrested on other charges. As someone who has been arrested, the jail usually makes a record of it that includes your name, SS#, etc. If you don’t have a SS# or a green card, then it’s pretty likely you are undocumented.

It is certainly not the responsibility of states to enforce immigration laws, but it isn’t unreasonable to require police to notify the Feds if an undocumented person is arrested. Same with anyone on the terror watch list.
