I couldn’t find the interest rate on these loans, but everything I read seems to indicate that they are very low compared to payday loans, which would generally be the alternative for most of these employees.

What the hell does gerrymandering have to do with the governor or lieutenant governor’s office? Every single statewide office in Texas is in Republican hands. There’s no gerrymandering involved. Even the indicted attorney general! got re-elected with ease. Abbott won by 20+ points both times.

It’s one of the greater propaganda victories of the capitalist class that it recasts advances won through active ideological (and often physical) struggle as simply the product of ownership’s inherent rising-tide-lifts-all-boats benevolence. It’s a lie, of course, but a really effective one.
