I couldn’t find the interest rate on these loans, but everything I read seems to indicate that they are very low compared to payday loans, which would generally be the alternative for most of these employees.

It’s one of the greater propaganda victories of the capitalist class that it recasts advances won through active ideological (and often physical) struggle as simply the product of ownership’s inherent rising-tide-lifts-all-boats benevolence. It’s a lie, of course, but a really effective one.
