I had an 08 Impreza manual hatch. What a terrible car. Slow, cheap interior, bad ride.....gear ratios were awul...anything over 100km/h on the highway you’d be at 3000rpm

2.5i may be reliable but it’s slow and whiny. You have to really ring its neck to get any power out of it.
I’d agree with you. With the exception of WRX/Sti’s and perhaps the BR-Z, Subaru can’t put together a decent drivetrain. The 2.5i they use everywhere is oppressively slow.
I’ve driven all three (Foz, XTrek and Golf) - The Forester is an SUV - so it doesn’t deliver the driving experience of a wagon thats low to the ground. Driving the XTrek is punishment either in CVT or Manual form. Why can’t Subaru put out a decent base engine? Teh 1.8 TSI in the Golf is a sweet little engine with…
The engine in the Golf is far superior to the 2.5i junkpile in the Outback. I’ve driven both and despite the superior AWD, I’d take the Golf over the Outback any day. The Outback is dangerously slow. This feels like a nice driving car. Plus DSG versus CVT...its a no brainer
