Not only do the believe it but the courts have repeatedly agreed that it is permissible for them to put their own safety first.

If he actually did attack cops with a knife. Have you read the news at all in the past year?
For sure. I bet most married women also don’t get people asking, “Yeah, but what’s your REAL name?”
Cops who shoot civilians always say the civilian was attacking them. Even when they’re later proved to have shot the civilian in the back. So we probably shouldn’t just take these cops at face value.
See, that sort of thing annoys me, because it's just as damaging to the struggle for trans rights as when furries appropriate our terms.
There isn't a cop (or firefighter, for that matter) in the world who values the life of a civilian over their own life. They will always save or protect themselves first over virtually any other person. And they'd save a fellow cop/FF before they'd save a civilian. We are a few lines down on their priority list.
It's important to score the inclusiveness brownie points while still making sure us trans folks know our place. Alternately, ignorance?
Someone above mentioned cops needing to utilize tasers more, but even then they can find an excuse to use their guns.
Funnily enough, a society that has moved beyond the level of “pedantic high-schooler” would disagree with you.
I am, in part because my coworkers don't try to cheapen or demean me by misgendering me.
For a completely unrelated reason, my father responded to my shitty run in with the police (purely beauricratical nonsense) by saying that they only “serve themselves and protect their budget.”
whaa? you have all the details. How about cops ‘fearing for their lives’ being the catch all excuse for murdering people when they fuck up??
Seems to me like many police officers divide the public between those who deserve to be protected and those who deserve to be killed.
Kayden had a service dog specifically trained to redirect him during self-injurous behaviours and meltdowns, so I’m wondering about that whole “attacking them with a knife” thing. A cynical part of me thinks they might have shot the dog and then Kayden when he reacted to that.
Did he actually attack? A lot of people, autistic or not, will threaten people when they are afraid. Im not condoning the behaviour (I did it once and scared the crap out of some people but I learned to never do it again but not everyone learns that lesson in time). Iirc the article didn’t indicate anything besides a…
Considering the level of technology we have achieved, how is it anything but insane that police officers don’t use a tool to incapacitate without doing harm and instead carry around handheld murder machines. Our ability to communicate is amazing, but police officers still regularly blast holes through people.
I’m so sorry that happened to you. Jesus Christ. On one hand I am tempted to keep a card in my purse that says I am autistic in case of some medical situation or something like this, but part of me says that they wouldn’t care even if they saw it, and part of me feels like I shouldn’t need it.
That’s a start. However, if the wrong sort of professional is sent out, it could be more damaging. The biggest autism charity in the world is looking for a cure when so many of us find it unnecessary. Anyone trained in ABA would terrify me more on an already terrifying situation.
I was in a similar situation, as an autistic cis person. I was walking home alone one day and was feeling anxious and sad about my life, so I decided to just let the tears come. I crossed a few streets, and soon enough, not one but three cop cars pulled up, police surrounding me, demanding to know my name, search my…
Two cops. One suicidal person with a knife. Forget being of some kind of help, if you can’t extricate yourself from that situation without shooting the person, it’s time for a different line of work.
