I love HL2, but it definitely didn’t have the same “oh my god oh my god oh my god” atmosphere that the first game did. That tension of “what the hell is going on!?!?!” that really made the game for me was fairly absent in the second game, with a lot of characters telling you what’s going on.

Yup. Don’t get me wrong, I love HL2. But it really seemed like more of a tech demo to sell a graphics engine or something.

I strongly recommend that you try HL1. The Combine will make more sense, and you’ll know why Alyx and everyone else greets Freeman the way they do!
