I think the emphasis on huge masses of single unit types is what killed starcraft. I see a problem with silhouettes - game designers have to take speed of identifying a particular character/ability into account when designing skins (look at blizzard - alt skins for overwatch and heroes seldom if ever change the character silhouette)
