If player progression is largely tied into paying to progress, is this a bad thing? Not all F2p models are bad, but I still have yet to find a loot box style free to play game that wasn’t at least a bit predatory.

Have you played X-COM or other turn based games? It’s not an RTS, strictly take turns between characters, so it depends on how you feel about that kind of gameplay. If you can deal with the basic turn based gameplay, it’s a surprisingly great game with a ton of content. Somehow is my most played Switch game.
