Not even. The wii was barely an upgrade over gamecube, yet it's obviously 7th generation. The capabilities of wii u are massive compared to the wii. The differences between Nintendo's consoles from the last generation to the current one are massive. Anyone who doesn't have their head up their own fanboy ass knows…

The Wii U was the successor to the Wii, a seventh generation console, making it an 8th generation console.

Wii u is considered 8th generation because of when it was released. Generations aren't defined by specs, but by where a console's life cycle falls in the generational timeline. But to be honest, why people care so much about arbitrary, useless shit like console generations is beyond me.

It's determined by when they are released. Why are so many people unable to understand that?
