Yes, because the Minghella version is a better movie. Alain Delon is as gorgeous an actor as ever appeared onscreen, but the psychological beats in the Damon version are far more intricate and the ending is far more true to the novel than Purple Noon's.

Alain Delon is better looking than everybody. But there's not enough queer undercurrent in Purple Noon and, untrue to the novel, he gets caught in the end.
