That was exactly my thought, reading this on the A-train home to northern Manhattan from my office in Chelsea/Flatiron this evening. And I was struck by the difference that zip codes make in terms of economic equality and divides. Everyone in my tony office building was chattering about this story.... on the train

My parents were not always great parents, but they did give us fantastic advice when it was time to apply to college. They basically told us “We can’t afford to send you anywhere, so don’t worry about the financial side of it. Apply wherever you want to go. You’re a great student and if a college wants you, they will

I can explain the getting ready with me ones....sometimes it’s fun to get ready with other people but you’re getting ready on your own so listening to someone on Youtube is fun. I listen to Jackie Aina who is really entertaining, though.

Especially because a lot of the richer schools, the ones with the truly insane endowments, have decent aid if you need it. Harvard and Yale flat out cover the cost of tuition at a middle class household income (like $60,000). Someone could have done so much with her spot.

Yeah, it’s out of date. USC used to be everyone’s fall-back school. Some time in the late-’90s to early 00s things suddenly shifted in a big way. It’s now much, much harder to get into than it was 25 years ago.

I watch the YouTubes, there’s some legitimately entertaining or interesting content there, but vast swaths of it is just trash.

What do they look like in 5-10 years? Same thing they look like now: overprivileged, underworked narcissists whose worthlessness is inexplicably validated by millions of followers?

One thing I’m really interested in (assuming we all last that long) is what do these “influencers” look like in 5 or 10 years?

my SAT scores in the 8th grade were good enough to get in....”

Well clearly your SAT scores did not help you understand the differences between state schools and private schools. USC is not a state school. UCLA has harder admissions than almost any UC.

Boomer spotted.... with... all... the... well, you know.

Being designated as a recruit is not the same thing as receiving a scholarship and thus does not require actual participation in the sport at the collegiate level. Plenty of college athletes, including those in revenue-generating programs at large schools (i.e. big time football and basketball programs) but

USC is a private school (you can tell because it doesn’t start with UC for the University of California school system) and both USC and UCLA are pretty hard to get into especially given the quantity of out of state & foreign applicants who pay full sticker price. So no, most CA applicants don’t get in for “free”. Most

Right, and UCLA is no slam-dunk, either—even for top students.

USC is not a state school and it has a 17% admittance rate.

I think they’ll become mommy bloggers then.

I wonder if brands like Sephora and Amazon are embarrassed to have collaborated with her now, and If other brands will be put-off from sponsoring her in the future.

Hopefully the courts have mercy.

I mean, if you paid that much to get her into college, just how many of those subscribers and followers are real and not bought (bot)?

Wait...you’re supposed to eat a burrito the size of a kitten and not...
