Modern military vehicles are automatics and that statement is 100% correct in that regard. A manual transmission is about as simple a component as you’ll find on a vehicle in 2016, almost comically so compared to everything else these days:

I served a year in Vietnam with the 5th Special Forces. The profanity was constant and extremely creative. Every sentence uttered by anyone below the rank of Major had at least one “motherfucker” in it. Sometimes several, especially among the E7, E-8 and E9 ranks. It was called “booney talk”. It was extremely…
I would say that a manual transmission is workable (source, I did the same rebuild last winter. though it is the simplest manual ever). Automatics however, are exactly what you said. I have seen schematics and animations but I still can’t fathom how they work. Nearest I can figure is that a trapped demon moves the…
Army scrabble must be fun
I am glad that others have the same viewpoint as me
The F word is used more than the letter E. lol
When you’re just trying to get things done there is no shame in delegating tasks to the proper person. It’s always amusing how the Army wraps such a simple concept in so much - frequently profane - language.

I have met kids legit proud of…

It was also a reference to another post, either here on Jalopnik or over on Gizmodo, that brought a tear to the eye.
Damn, Daryl! Did you send these onions?
My dad was in the navy in the pacific in WW2. He said they were told they’d be in for the duration of the war plus 6 months. At the time everyone thought that with luck they’d be home in ‘48. He was actually in Tokyo bay for the surrender. Considered himself very lucky to have come home at all.
