Sadly it needs marketing. Ain't gonna pay for itself, and sadly we live in a world where people want return in their investment more than peace of mind that someone's benefited from your time/money/form of currency.

I find it a rather revolting form of marketing. It's exactly the same with the kickstarter kittens.
