I don't understand all the hate for Block. He is a good driver (note I did not say great) that does a lot for rally. I've been to a couple of events, such as OTR last year, and he stays late to sign autographs and stuff for all his fans. And these lines have been very long. Am I missing something here?

I was in Germany during the last World Cup in South Africa. Every city you were in had huge tents set up to watch the games and drink beer.
