Once I built a solar heated doghouse. Old window frames, lots of insulation, brick lined walls for thermal retention, etc. Seemed warm and cozy but wondered why dog would not use it, so one sunny winter day I put a thermometer inside. It Was 140 degrees! At least the dog had sense enough not to be roasted.

Thought this sounded great, but see that is is just video clips. I’m kind of a news junkie, but just would rather choose and read a news story than see talking heads tell me what interests them.

Ya, my wife’s cat loves to catch mice and other critters and bring them IN the house and present them to us still alive. If we’re in bed that’s where she brings them. Mice brought to our bed is one thing, but one night she brought us a live frog that jumped on me while I was still asleep. Ya, get a cat.

Much cheaper and almost as good is use of plastic sheet protectors. Use something to seal the open end. Even if it’s just scotch tape.

As a pilot and experimental aircraft builder, I taught myself to fly in an early ultralight before getting a license and moving on to larger aircraft. Always trying different engines and other modifications I can tell you without reservation, that I have survived at least eight crashes. Some pretty spectacular (I

LOTS of energy used, when a sprinkle of “Barkeeper’s Friend” will do the job so much easier and faster.

Agreed, I’m all for innovation, but when something works as well as this. Trying to hack something that uses a LOT more energy and effort is a poor use of resources.

Not really, with the cooking oil, just use a few drops and spread over the top and sides with a old rag or paper towel. No need to put enough on to make it greasy or run down to the soles.

As the home of the international BBQ festival, the winners year after year use sauces that are worcestershire and lemon based. The rest of the ingredients are team secrets.  Shame on you if you use any form of tomatoes or sugar. Both burn on the BBQ pits.

I like that. May be better for the leather than my cooking oil procedure.

Quick way to put a nice temporary shine is just stop by the kitchen on your way out and rub just a very little cooking oil on them. A paper towel will do. They will sparkle and look great for hours and probably good for the leather. (May not be the best idea in a real dusty environment...) On one pair of dress shoes

White history... What are you talking about? Ya, I guess I am talking about my family and acquaintances and the people that have raised cattle for all recorded history. Many were white. What does that have to do with anything? I spend a lot of time in third world countries, often providing Vet services to keep their

Thanks, these are my favorite kind of life hacks. But to call in old fashioned is silly. Nothing about it looks old.

You are right. Sorry.

Why does a five year old need an oven?

Kentucky lets us go to 4 hour “dummy school” and watch car crash videos to erase our points.

See my reply to pigeonrat. Hey this wasn’t meant to be a serious scientific post. Just a silly observation of something I tried once. Sorry about my logic flaws.

Sure, you are right. As I said it is not the PH (acid). Just a silly observation of something I tried once. Lowest lipid readings I ever got. Never subjected it to the “scientific method”. Never tried to repeat it. Not an adherent, and never studied one, but lots of articles and books advertised about vinegar

Probably not the PH, but if I take a couple tablespoons of vinegar for a couple of days before a cholesterol blood test it seems to lower the test results. Guy that told me this claimed it “dissolved and washed fat out of arteries”. I find its not too bad in a glass of Ice Tea instead of lemon. Supposedly some other

So many of these historic places are just gone. I did find pinpoint location of two supposedly secret and hidden archaeological sites from 3000 BC near my home. They are so isolated that any thief could dig there for days without being discovered.
