Looks like Hostgator's lowest tier plan starts at $3.96 right now, which is more than twice the cost of the Dreamhost + Kotaku special offer. Definitely makes sense to consider the features and support offered between the two and find what works for you beyond price, though.

Dreamhost is able to offer such a good deal to Kotaku in hopes that they stick around as long term customers. If they do, that makes it worth Dreamhost's while to discount heavily in the first year.
