I think there’s a misconception that people - including Taylor Swift - didn’t laugh because his jokes were offensive. People didn’t laugh because they weren’t funny.

I miss the blockchain and NFTs. Not because I liked them, but because it was endlessly amusing watching people INSIST that it was super special magical technology that would change the world, and then never be able to give an actual use case for them. I think the closest they ever got were for recording transactions…
Honestly, god help anyone who says ANYTHING about her if we’re referring to that Jo Koy joke as “cringe-worthy.” It was not a good joke. It was barely a joke. But my goodness, is it being blown so absurdly out of proportion. “Taylor Swift is dating an NFL star and gets shown on TV a bunch.” Oh, what a diss to Tay-Tay.…
“making them have a really high quality.”
A $90 million budget, with a $40 million for marketing, is a huge amount of money to spend on a musical The Color Purple remake that does not have Spielberg behind the camera or someone like Oprah in front of it. Barbie’s not a meaningful comparison here. It’s also puzzling how the author says that the movie has done “…
I can understand not liking Tenet because it’s difficult to follow (heck, I’m still not sure I fully get it even tho I think I have a handle on things), but I can’t fathom how someone could think it’s a bad movie.
I don’t get the feeling he’s against people having any kind of opinion on his work, just that if you’re going to express it in a public forum you should put some though into it. And I don’t entirely disagree. Certainly criticism, when done well, is one of the finest forms of writing.
How did you get the impression that he doesn’t want his audience to have an opinion about his films?
I really liked Tenet.
It’s definitely true that you can get away with just about anything in your writing if you’ve got Olivia Colman and David Tennant as your leads.
“Shows were not canceled immediately after 8 episodes if the entire world did not watch twice. They were given time to grow an audience.“
According to Chenglong, he couldn’t make it to the toilet in time and simply opted for the bathtub because…I guess it was right there?
I would disagree. I’d imagine Oldman would, too. People still line up to see a 60 year old Tom Cruise. No one does for Gary Oldman. Tom Cruise can’t go anywhere without being noticed. Gary Oldman can likely walk through Times Square without being stopped for an autograph.
Davies is a better writer than Chibnall.
“But jeez, the Davies worship is just excessive.”
When you order pizza, you want pizza that tastes good. Just because its a silly sci fi action film does not excuse it from not being compelling or entertaining, you can have both, and it is weird when people try to make excuses for low quality filmmaking.
He makes movies that are fun to watch, and that’s it.

It’s more like “Holy shit, this Whopper I ordered has wilted lettuce, old cheese, and I’m pretty sure this isn’t even beef.”
Marvels was great. Much more fun and decidedly less convoluted than Captain Marvel. Khamala Khan is a lightning bolt of charisma. There were laugh-out-loud funny scenes, musical numbers, and a villain that actually had legitimate beef. I can’t understand the pillorying it’s getting. My thought after watching it was,…
