I think this is one of few places where I can criticize things otherwise reviled by many people and actually find some understanding, instead of being called a god-hating communist or something.

double post
You asked me and I answered with a widely known fact. Then you tried to spin in with the good old “whataboutism”. Seriously, what is the matter with you people? Instead of providing facts, you always drag out that tired “what about”. We are discussing one topic, so stay on it and provide reasonable counter-arguments…
Challenger 2 is still carries HESH rounds, but I don’t know why aren’t current AVRE’s using them. It was last carried by the Centurion AVRE, which left service in the 90s.
OK.....while I’m tired of arguing about the F-35, I do have to say that you are horribly overestimating the capabilities of the IRST. I am usually arguing for the IRST as a great counter-stealth weapon, but to say that it makes stealth obsolete is ridiculous. IRST’s performance heavily depends on the atmospheric…
Ok, next time I go mountain biking in Fort William, I’ll make sure that everyone wears a high-visibility vest.
What makes you think I won’t piss on that one as well? PT belt is a ridiculous piece of crap, but this being a post about the UK’s military, I’ve decided to make a joke about them only.
What really hate about the whole thing is the oft-seen historical revisionism in various articles and documentaries which attribute the high number casualties to a stronger than expected German resistance, rather than operational failure of the US forces.
Arabs are inept pussies. Nuff said.
I’ve always had an opinion that casualties at Omaha were more due to a bad execution of the landing rather than stiff resistance.
It depends on what your definition of the word stealth is.
I never said I liked it; I actually wrote something like that on the article which described it (or about IRST, I don’t really remember). However, the primary role of that pod is to provide a link between the F-22s and non-stealth aircraft. And I’m sure that it doesn’t slow down the aircraft noticeably, it is only…
That’s a good way to start a day.
The pod is only meant to be used by one aircraft in the formation, but the individual IRST fit (as done on Eurocanards, F-14 and the Russian fighters) can be very useful for ACM, not to mention cheaper and more easily justifiable ugrade than AESA.
Since you have touched that topic, I have to say that I was always puzzled about the US’ refusal to use those specialized tanks (Hobart’s funnies) during the Normandy invasion. They were offered a whole brigade of them, and they refused, only taking the DD tanks. Just imagine how many lives could’ve been…
