Most of the work on that car was actually done by the Honda team; Brawn GP was created only weeks before the 09' season began, basically being a renamed Honda team. It was winning because of its double diffuser and a Mercedes engine. Also, because everyone else, apart from Red Bull, sucked that year.
Ok, now it’s official; once a week, we spam one FA article with awesome photos (but try to be moderate, no more than 3 per post).
A decade ago, there was some talk about (then) current WRC cars not being suited to the driving style of some old-school drivers like McRae and Makkinen, who could not change their driving style as easily as others, all due to the cars having active diffs. Some were saying that was the reason why the those two have…
I agree. It was the best showdown in the history of motorsport, and yet, the British media have promoted is a “Battle of Britain”, despite all four drivers having an equal chance at winning the title (you forgot Sainz).
Burns had definitely deserved it, but I was on the other side of the camp at the time; Colin McRae being my huge childhood hero.
Nothing of any significance. Russians have several Pantirs, which are only good for point defense, while the Syrian IADS is a mess, as evidenced by the Israelis operating with impunity over Syria.
Clearly, you don’t understand how does proper ASW work. Burke is a super do it all ship, a general purpose frigate is a cheaper multirole vessel. I don’t know what else to say to you.
Agreed. I’ve actually had that discussion quite a few times with a couple of my friends. Without digging too much in the past and considering the all of the series together, here are my additions:
Burke class is arguably the most formidable surface warship ever built by anyone.
First, LCS’ hull design is not good for the oceanic role. Second, that modular capability sucks and is useless for a wannabe frigate. 180 tons module, what the hell can you fit there? And those are the opinions formed as soon as the LCS entered service, and confirmed by a recent GAO report on them.
How does it compare to the old BMW-Husqvarna - the TR650 Terra? Are the new Huskys simply rebadged Husabergs or what?
I am actually surprised that so far, there are only two users of the Brimstone. Everyone seems to be considering them (USN, Germany, France, India, Australia....), but no one is buying them yet.
BTW, what is the current status of the Spear 3/Sea Spear? Is anyone buying them yet?
I didn’t say anything against the Nansen class; I agree that it would be a good solution. What I’m saying is that such ship in the USN service doesn’t really need to have Aegis - the Norwegians have it because those ships are the core of their navy. It is an area defense system, but if no cheaper solution can be…
