I didn't care for Crowded Sky either.  I don't think it's 'literary' but I liked 7 Wonders by Adam Christopher quite a bit.

Same here. I read the first 4 books during my sophmore year of college, then (seemingly) every year at Christmas, there would be a new Robert Jordan novel out.  There was definitely a downward spiral in both quality and pacing but I still love the series.  It's strange to think it's all coming to an end.

So many good episodes and so much incredible tension w/o going over the top.

We had a case about 18mos ago where a woman got tanked and ran over 2 pedestrians, (both international exchange students going to a Hopkins program), killing one of them.  The criminal got <3.5 years.  There's some really weird sentencing priorities in this country.

I generally agree, though it depends on when you encounter stuff like this. Maybe i'm in the minority, but I found RATM as I was just becoming politically aware and involved, so it was immensely helpful as a jumping off point and an introduction to a lot of things like Peltier and Mumia etc. My views have grown more

Excellent, I had no idea that Creepshow 2 was on Netflix.   Also, as you mentioned below the Salems Lot stories are great. That's actually my favorite King novel of all time ( I think).

I just recently re-read Skeleton Crew, Night Shift and Nightmares and Dreamscapes and was reminded what great short stories King writes.  The last couple of collections (Everything's Eventual and Full Dark, No Stars) were good, but not at the level, imo. I think it's also a strength of those collections that there's

Currently reading Krampus: The Yule Lord by Brom and Red Country by Joe Abercrombie.  Krampus is kind of…meh. I really liked the Child Thief and this just doesn't seem to be quite the same quality of writing.  Maybe I need to set it down for a while.  Red Country, about 100 pages in, is very good.

You'd probably also like Jefferson Cowie's Staying Alive: The 1970s and the Last Days of the Working Class. It's a very interesting read and has a lot about Nixon and his courting of labor.
